Fashion Designer Jontea' Luckett grew up in the city of lights (Canton, MS) and honed her design skills by attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles, CA and obtaining her undergrad at Mississippi State University. Growing up as a gospel musician in the Canton Community, the designer fashioned her aesthetic in clothing design with her love for music and began her career. In 2005, she moved to Los Angeles, CA and coincidentally obtained her very first job working in the music industry as a temp hire for Stevie Wonder's KJLH radio station in Inglewood, CA. While working for the radio station and paying her way through college, she realized that music and fashion were going to be a part of her life’s journey and her gifts were going to be devoted to such.
After living in Los Angeles for many years and working in fashion for established brands such as Ron Herman, Guess? Inc., and Crave, the designer decided that it was time to officially launch her own fashion company. In 2008, Luckett launched KATIE+ROBERT clothing line as a way to pay homage to her mother (Katie Alease) and her father (Robert). The line mixes melodic colors with rhythmic patterns and tells the “true love story of how Katie met Robert”. The clothing line was launched in Long Beach, CA and was reviewed by experts in the design industry as being a line that greatly appealed to the world of fashion.
In 2010, Luckett moved back to her home state (M I S S I S S I P P I) and started her first design studio (Page 27). The studio started as a one room incubator space in the Jackson Enterprise Center near the heart of downtown Jackson. The studio expanded in 2012 to include seven rooms and several industrial machines to manufacture the clothing line. During her days at Page 27 showroom, Luckett was seen as one of the leading designers for the state of Mississippi. She was chosen by Jackson State University's theatre department to work on the theatrical Broadway stage play,The Color Purple,as guest costume designer. She designed lead role costumes and helped in developing sketches and era-styles for the play.Luckett also was given the opportunity by Dr. Mark Henderson and Dr. Nadia Bodie-Smith to assist students in learning and developing skills in sewing. This love for teaching brought Luckett into her second career as a professional educator and in 2014 she launched a fashion design program for teens. In her fashion career the designer has been featured in the Canton Historical museum and has won awards including best High-End Designer for the Mississippi Ag Museum. The first Katie Robert flagship store was launched in 2015 in her hometown of Canton, MS.
In 2018, Designer Jontea' was announced as the leading instructor of the Clothing and Fashion Design Program for Hinds Community College in Utica, Mississippi.
